I discovered Mr. Burke at the thrift store near my job that I frequent . The purple cover first attracted me then the synopsis of the story peaked my curiosity. It took though months before I finally picked up my first Dave Robicheaux novel, PURPLE CANE ROAD and I was hooked.

Mr. Burke has a poetic way of writing. I am not a descriptive person and often get lost with the ramblings of some authors page upon page. Mr. Burke can describe the sky, the bayou, or cajun food and music so vividly that if you close your eyes, you can hear or smell exactly what he's relating in only a few sentences.

His main character Det. Dave Robicheaux is so complicated a person yet he is the most human and compassionate a soul.

A movie was made of Mr. Burkes second novel HEAVEN"S PRISONERS with Alec Baldwin. Another film is in the works for IN THE ELECTRIC MIST WITH CONFEDERATE DEAD with Tommy Lee Jones attached to play Dave.

I had hoped Jim would be on the list though he is far younger than Dave in this novel (50s), but Hollywood does and have changed a novels character to fit film.

Jim would have been perfect to play this battered soul. Dave is a recovering alcoholic and had a dysfunctional though loving parents. He clings to his Catholicism and to his persuit of justice for the downtrodden.
Seems this type of warrior in todays society is as almost extinct as the dinosauer. Integrity, courage and honor seem to be lost amongst this corruptive world we live in.

Dave and Harry Bosch (another thread) somehow give me hope that those dinosauers are still out there protecting the innocent.

Sue, these novels sound amazing. I am not familiar with any of these authors yet, but I am definately right- brained and love descriptive writings. The subject matter also interests me.

Do you know if the film 'Heavens Prisoners' is available at most movie rental outlets and when it was made? Im also interested in the new film in the works too! If you have any related links, would you post them here?

Thanks!

Beth

I'll send you a copy of IN THE ELECTRIC MIST WITH CONFEDERATE DEAD.
I have extras. I put them in a box, so as soon as I found out where I stashed them. I was buying lots of Mr. Burkes books on ebay as it was cheaper than ordering them from the bookstore.

Once I found how much I loved them, I started replacing the paperbacks with hardbacks.

I have the movie HEAVENS PRISONER and will make you a copy, but you must read the book first. This was his second Dave Robicheaux novel and you need to read it first to fully understand all that is Dave. I'll check to see if I have extras on that.

Beth,

I forgot I also have audiobooks. I'm not good with these....in one ear out the other. I only bought one so I could get the proper pronunciations of the cajun names, but found I was hooked on those 2 (never own an audiobook up to this point). Will Patton reads the abridged (though he's reading the unabridged versions now) and Mark Hammer reads the unabridged.

Though both gentlemen are excellent, I hear Will Pattons voice as Dave Robicheaux.

I'll send you one of those too.

Then you can let me know what you think.
